Welcome to our winter wonderland! This year Steve and I have a new home and we couldn’t wait to get started on our modern and glam theme. We’ve had some pretty varied Christmas themes over the years (remember the Candy-land Christmas and last years Classic Christmas?) but this might be my favorite yet. As most of you who have been following our blogs for awhile know, I can be a little Christmas crazy. How can you not love that time of year full of wonderful memories, kind hearts and hopes for the future? Christmas for me is that one time and place where I can still believe in magic, and miracles, and perfect love with the people you love most. Where you are allowed to shut out everything negative and just bask in the glow of peace, and family and making happy memories. So here we are, our modern and glam Christmas decor home tour! Be sure to keep an eye out for our tutorials along the way! Our favs include our Christmas cone trees, our DIY Christmas tree “snow” garland, and our lighted branches too!
Glam Christmas Decor & Home Tour
In going for a more minimal look, we stuck to a winter wonderland color theme of white and metallics, with a warm white light to make it all glow. (Picture the light from a rustic cabin spilling out the window onto the snow on a starry Christmas night… that’s what we were going for!) So in our built-in shelving we created vignettes lighted with warm white firefly lights on a copper wire. They are so easy to bend into place, and the light is magically amazing. We got our lights at ‘Amazon‘. BTW, we are going to try to mention where we got things you might love, but we are not getting paid by any sponsors for this post. Just sharing ’cause we love you!
Here are some of our glam Christmas decor DIY’s that we made for just this theme! You can find the tutorial for our modern Christmas cone trees at TBD. I adore our polar bear! The “snow” on the shelves was a product called “Twinkle Blanket” from ‘Hobby Lobby’, then we also sprinkled some loose artificial snow flake and glitter over the top. We used firefly lights inside these cones as well.
In this vignette, we did not light the inside of the cones, but used the lights more casually. You can see the copper wire in this shot. Grass ball (I love it!) is from ‘Home Goods’.
I am a ‘Kate Spade’ gal, so polka dots are one of my fav things! Love this tree from ‘Hobby Lobby‘!
‘Crate & Barrel’ reindeer and grasses.
This sign has the glitter and metallic glam I was looking for, and who doesn’t want to be reminded of these amazing carols? From ‘Michaels’.
Ok, we finally got to it, our tree! We went for a cut tree this year that we had lightly flocked. We originally planned a little pop of red with some berry picks, but at the end, it wan’t right for our modern look. Still think it needs a little more gold or copper to add some contrast, but all in all, it’s beautiful! Every time I look at it I think of a real snowy forest, albeit in some fantasy Christmas land. 🙂
We really wanted to steal a garland secret trick from one of our fav bloggers, Lucy at ‘Craftberry Bush‘. She used dollar store micro fiber dusters to get a snowy look in her tree, and we loved it! But unfortunately, we couldn’t find ones where we were happy with their look. So, we tried Poly-fill. No go. Clumpy and cheap looking. Then we found this great stuff at ‘Hobby Lobby‘ called “Twinkle Blanket”. This stuff separates smoother than poly-fill but still has some puff to it. We used clumps of it to create little “pads” of snow on branches where snow might naturally accumulate. We pulled it apart slightly, then patted it down smooth and brushed it onto the branches lightly with our fingers for a natural look.
We also added these silver sprigs from ‘Hobby Lobby’ (floral section) to the top of the tree (there are 5) instead of a topper. Feathery trim from (you guessed it!) ‘Hobby Lobby’ in 6 foot lengths was used as garland, and though we felt it took away from our genius (cue back patting) snow branches, we felt it wasn’t glam enough without it! We may do some tweaking to make the feather trim a little less noticeable.
Here is a photo of the “twinkle blanket” material we got from Hobby Lobby.
Our dining table is also going to be the site for the big family Christmas celebration this year, so we wanted to make it special. We used glass vases, white candles from the dollar store and more feather trim to make this glam Christmas centerpiece. The silver sequin table runner will look amazing in evening candlelight! I used some card-stock snowflakes I found in the scrapbook section as little accents randomly tucked into the feather trim around the candles. (They may be hard to see in the photo.)
Simple but beautiful glam Christmas decor!
We planted our paper-whites this year a little late, so hopefully we will have blooms by Christmas! We will update photos when they do. We ordered our bulbs this year so that we could get a variety that doesn’t have the awful smell that some paper-whites do. This variety is called “Inbar“. Dollar store vases. Jump on over to our partner site TGG to find out how to force paperwhites and other bulbs for Christmas!
Love my Christmas pillow covers from ‘H&M’!
So this was our other glam Christmas decor project, our lighted branch trees. We bought these branches at Ikea for less than $15 for enough to make two trees. We spray painted them lightly with white paint, then inserted them into an all white pot and covered the top with more “Twinkle Blanket”. We wrapped the branches with more firefly lights. We played with the idea of hanging crystals from them, but we didn’t want over the top.
Our new home is quite a bit bigger then the one I had when I started blogging, but all the ideas here could be used in any size space. I did try to list all the things we made and bought in the post, but feel free to comment if you have questions! A Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas to all our readers, we love you!
