Hanging Room Dividers

Ok, we love this hanging DIY room divider idea from ‘A Beautiful Mess‘. Made from macrame, (yes, it’s back!) it’s got an elegant Boho vibe, but allows light to pass through. And the air plants they used? Serious style here. We love the way they actually teach you how to make the macrame knots with step by step photos!

From ‘Houzz‘, this DIY curtain room divider couldn’t be any easier. Simply hang a curtain rod at ceiling level, and then use floor length drapes as a hanging room divider. This looks so modern yet elegant.

Here is another variation  – check out this DIY sheer curtain room divider idea. This photo is all over Pinterest, but we had to include it because it is such a good and elegant option. Sorry, we could not track down a legit source for this photo. This looks like it could be basically a suspension wire (Dignitet curtain wire at Ikea) and some sheer full length drapes. (We’ve also seen these at Ikea). Love this because it allows light in, yet separates the spaces.

Making It Lovely‘ has a great tutorial for making a hanging room divider. While they cut their own wood, it’s possible you could find something recycle-able and hang it in the same way. Old hardback book cover? Cheap wood shims from the lumber yard?

Room Divider Ikea Hacks

Sugar & Cloth‘ has a great DIY room divider Ikea hack for us. Using one of their rattan cheap room dividers, she ups the style quotient with this trick. She weaves various textures and colors of yarn through the rattan, creating a whole new customized look for her room divider! Lot’s of step by step photos, too.

Want more room dividers with Ikea hacks? Good, we got that! This DIY room divider screen from ‘Lady Explorer‘ is being used as a decorative screen, but you can also use it freestanding to separate spaces. They not only used an Ikea storage system for the poles, but also Ikea bed slats.

From ‘Ikeahackers’, this room divider Ikea hack is simply taking an existing plant stand and adding wood to create privacy. This is a great idea if you need a patio screen from prying neighbors or a busy street.

Also from ‘Ikeahackers‘, this room divider Ikea hack screen turned a studio apartment into a one bedroom! Made using “Pax” wardrobe doors and some ingenuity, they even lit these frosted glass doors with LED lights. Sophisticated DIY project!

Wooden Room Dividers

Ok, seriously? Storage and a wooden room divider? This room divider screen from ‘Girl Refined‘ is simply wooden crates glued together. And yes, she tells you how to do this project with simple instructions. She actually uses this room divider idea to separate her sleeping area away from the rest of her home. And plants! Yes!

This DIY room divider is from ‘Bob Vila‘ , and we love it because it is a great decor piece even if you just use it as a decorative screen! You build this from the ground up with wood, and they give you all the directions and photos to lead you through the project.

‘My Friend Stacy’ created this awesome re-purposed room divider from old wood pallets. DYSS Tip: Hinges are a must for most room dividers!

This DIY room divider idea from ‘H20 Bungalow‘ is the perfect example of a simple re-purposing DIY project. She used an old set of bi-fold doors and a really easy paint technique to make the perfect room partition that can easily be moved to exactly where you need it.

I was thinking of stringing picture wire from Command Hooks to hang light-weight fabric from. How about light-weight [plastic?] chain strung from the Command Hooks with a light weight curtain – the curtain hooks could go into the chain links.

Using the Command Hooks would allow you to follow the contour of your space. I was thinking of it to divide my sleeping area from my craft area, since they say that you should keep other activities out of the bed room. String the wire from the window, to the bureau in the middle of the room, then to the other wall.

Looks to me that it is some sort of wire or cable. Sorry don’t know for sure as this photo came from a website that does not have a tutorial. I have done something very similar and used a cable that I purchased from Ikea!

Think that it might be a wire or cable. You can find something similar at Ikea and I believe they also carry sheer drapes too!
