If we are lucky enough to have a fireplace in our home, the truth is, we should be trying to make the most of it. Let’s face it, in the design world, few things in a room command attention like a fireplace. The problem is, unless you have a newer custom home, chances are yours could use a little updating and sprucing up, right? We gotcha covered. These fine bloggers had the same problem, and went out and found a solution. Best of all, they are sharing it with all of us! So let’s get to it folks, fireplace season is pretty much anytime when you love the way it looks! (Did we mention, this could add resale value as well!) Check out these awesome fireplace makeover projects!
Our first project below, is from ‘Monica Wants It‘. This tutorial takes an ordinary 1970’s fireplace and gives it an elegant update. This fireplace was still in good shape, in fact, my Mom bought a house when I was a kid with one just like it. But go check out the before and afters of this brick fireplace makeover. Worth every drop of sweat.
From ‘Creatively Living‘, this DIY fireplace makeover took just a weekend, and cost them less than $100! Great tutorial for how to update a fireplace using paint, molding and a little tongue and groove paneling!
Melissa at ‘The Inspired Room‘ chose the perfect color for this painted stone fireplace makeover. It makes me think of a stone fireplace in a high end ski lodge. It’s a really easy update, but totally changed the whole look of the room!
Learn how to whitewash stone in this fireplace makeover from ‘Coastal Collective’. She used chalk paint for this project, but I think her best tip is on using two different colors in layers, for realism. Make sure you hop on over and check out the before!
Sonya and her husband from ‘At Home with the Barkers‘ call this a DIY fireplace makeover, but it really looks like a totally new fireplace! They replaced an old, inefficient insert and built this gorgeous DIY fireplace surround from a drawing Sonya made. (She shares it with us!) Lots of photos with this tutorial.
‘Young House Love’ did a $200 fireplace makeover that looks like it’s in a high end custom home. But really, what would you expect? It’s ‘Young House Love’! Loving the herringbone marble tile they added in this fireplace redo. Some amazing”before and after”, right? Great tutorial, too.
‘Remodelando la casa‘ shows us how to add visual interest and height to a fireplace. Wow! The whole fireplace surround idea was made from molding and MDF. Make sure you check out her after photos, it makes a huge difference in how the room is perceived.
The ’80’s was good… no, great, for a lot of things, but home design wasn’t one of them. Watch ‘Angie’s List‘ take you through this stacked stone fireplace makeover from start to finish. Talk about leaving the past in the past, huh? Seriously, cheap brass and fake oak? Good riddens.
This DIY fireplace makeover is courtesy ‘DIY Affair‘, and takes you through the process of rebuilding the fireplace and mantel with tile. Lots and lots of step by step photos. What do you think, can you handle this project?
