DIY Garage Storage Ideas

This is a DIY garage storage center from ‘Lowes‘. You can make this garage wall organizer in a weekend with some basic power tools. Are you checking out the sports storage for the balls? More ideas on that, towards the end of the post.

Blue I Style‘ created their own DIY garage storage organization using a system that allowed for these storage bins to be used as drawers. They are labeled, and slide out easily. They keep things that are used only seasonally in the top, harder to reach bins. And, it leaves room underneath for more garage storage! Slide in those trikes and chest coolers!

Here is a similar garage storage idea, on steroids! This may be the best garage wall organizer we’ve ever seen. For all you doubters, why can’t it be this way? From ‘A Bowl Full of Lemons‘.

Don’t you just hate to waste paint? This idea for leftover paint storage in mason jars is from ‘True Value‘. It’s a brilliant idea because you can see the color at a glance, and the lids seal nice and tight. Don’t forget to label your paint storage jars, with the sheen as well as the color and brand.

Watch this video from ‘DIY Network‘ on DIY garage storage on the ceiling! This is the perfect way to create garage organizers while taking up no footprint.

Got folding chairs? Use these garage storage hooks like they did at ‘House Organization‘ to get them up and off the floor!

Young House Love‘ created a tutorial for us who are garage storage challenged. (Raising my hand!) These DIY garage shelves are what you need to make organizing your garage space a whole lot easier. Lots of step by step instructions and photos.

DIY Tool Storage Ideas

We are loving on this garage pegboard storage idea from ‘The Creativity Exchange‘. When it comes to tool storage ideas, pegboard is the best invention since the toolbox! They didn’t just use this to store tools though, they added shelves underneath, and even wire baskets onto the pegboard. My “Type A” part of me is loving this garage!

Another take on garage pegboard storage is these modular metal pegboard panels used by ‘Evan & Katelyn‘. This is the kind of DIY garage organizing that is actually pretty! And, they are made of steel, so they will hold up. Check out all their other garage storage ideas while you are there.

BHG‘ has this great tool storage idea for the garage. Use magnetic strips similar to the kind you might use in the kitchen to store knives.

HGTV‘ has a great garage storage idea for re-purposing an old file cabinet into DIY tool storage. Remove the drawers, turn it onto its backside and attach casters to make it portable.

‘Mom 4 Real’ has a great tutorial to build this portable tool caddy. This tool storage idea would make a great gift for the tool junkie in your life!

You can order the plans to this cordless tool caddy from ‘Woodstore‘ for less than $3. Perfect tool storage that will last!

Garage Sports Storage Ideas

Chaotically Creative‘ has the perfect solution for sports storage in the garage. Use bungee cords attached to garage shelves to create a “ball cage”. We might use a few more cords, you know… Just to make sure they don’t “escape” all over the garage floor exactly when you are pulling in the SUV. They have lots more ideas on their post for garage storage ideas, so be sure to check it out.

From ‘Lowes‘, this is an easy way to make that same kind of ball storage. Wood dowels and bungee cords. This project is actually from the garage wall organizer at the very top of this post.

Another ball storage from bungee cords and scrap wood. This garage sports organizer tutorial is from ‘100 Things to Do‘.

Finally we have an easy pool noodle storage idea when storing fishing poles in the garage. Unfortunately, this blog no longer exists, but the photo is pretty self explanatory. Remember, in spring and summer, you can often get pool noodles at the dollar store or Walmart. Attach a section of the noodle to the wall, cut slits for the poles, and you are done! Cheap garage storage idea!

LOVE that overhead “hanging” bin organization idea! That could free up a big chunk of space for people. Two thumbs up!

I also found that simply banging in two heavy-duty nails for hanging a step ladder worked well for us.

We have lots of those plastic storage boxes, so I love the idea of storing them ‘on the ceiling’. The above-mentioned step ladder will probably be required though 🙂

Great collection of ideas! The one picture with the bungee cords in the middle of a shelf or between studs is a good idea that doesn’t need a lot of build out.
