Home Trends – Textured & Wood Wall Treatments & Ideas

We all know how paint can transform a room, but one of the hottest new trends in home decorating is textured walls. Textured walls are perfect for a small space, as they can offer interest without closing in the room with bright colors or cluttered accessories. And you can do this on a budget as well… Some of the products are re-purposed lumber, and in a small space it only takes a focal wall to make a big impact. Consider adding a textured treatment to your entry wall, or the wall that your fireplace is on. That’s all it takes to update an entire room and give it a luxury look that enhances any space! Check out these great textured & wood wall treatments… Remember, most of these are already neutral colors, or can be painted to match your walls… perfect for a small room or home!

 

 

You could DIY this wood wall treatment by simply applying cut end pieces of 4×6 or 4×8’s to sheets of plywood with construction adhesive, then applying the entire sheet to the wall. Stain the whole wall as one piece to create a uniform look. These only need to be an inch or two deep, and we love the slightly different measurements for each one… who doesn’t love a project where you don’t have to be precise! We saw this at our local Parade of Homes… use re-purposed wood and it becomes a budget project as well!

 

This was a re purposed wood project as well… simply used just inside a closet area, to become a perfect niche for a bed…

 

Using molding to create panels isn’t a new concept, but still effective. Use flat molding to create a more contemporary look to go with any style.

 

Another wood wall treatment idea- this project can be done DIY as well… 2×2’s are attached to the wall vertically (like rails) about 8 feet apart, then 1×4’s are attached directly to that framework. Leave a uniform gap between each board to create a modern, upscale look.

 

The next two wall treatments are fantastic tiles that we are seeing in high end homes and hotels, and make a great statement for a small home! Keep the costs down by applying only on a small focal wall, not the whole room. Behind a bed in a bedroom or in an entry hall are our top bets. Stone facing materials are some of our favorite looks we are seeing in high end homes, and while we are sure there are a few of you out there who could find a way to DIY it, we think this one is best left to professional installers. However, it will improve your home value and this trend should be around for some time to come.
